I think the internet is very powerful, it is open to everyone and any one can make a website, a video and even a blog about racism. From one person, a group can form meaning racsim can still continue.

What irritates me personally is that there is so much racism going on in the world.. but a lot of it gets passed over. Many of us try to stop it but the laws don't seem to do much about it. It is only when a topic becomes commerical that people step in, it is as if they are afraid of our country looking bad, but when it is away from the media, people just seem to pass it by. An example of this is Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother with the racism issues with Jade Goody - a huge outrage was made from this, when these things happen as we speak and nothing is said or done about them.

I think racism is inevitable- because some people will always have prejudices whether it is against age, gender, race, sexuality etc...
I think the internet does have the ability to make people a bit more aware about racism but unfortunately it only seems that negetive stories are reproduced over the internet. The internet gives so much freedom which means that people will be exploited- especially through sites that enable people to post their own video footage. There has been a lot of controversy recently over kids posting images of racist attacks in schools....and the viewing rates show they are extremely popular which is worrying. It is a tough call as to whether the makers or the sponsors of the sites have a responsibility to filter videos. But if that happens, is that a breach of human rights? Should people be able to post whatever they want- be it offensive or not? If we start filtering & monitoring, will we end up living in a "1984" society? Or are we heading that way anyway....?

I agree, with Kim, and it is a scary concept to think we are heading towards a 1984 society! If we loose the freemdom of speech...what else are we losing?
